The planned rally by the Linda Mwananchi movement in Homa Bay has sparked concerns over security amid political tensions. His remarks came after leaders of the movement raised alarms about potential disruptions ahead of the gathering.
Interior Ministry official Raymond Omolo also addressed fears of violence, emphasizing that officials would work to maintain peace. He warned against the misuse of youth for political chaos, highlighting the need for stability ahead of the event. Despite these assurances, Governor James Orengo of Siaya reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to holding the rally as scheduled.
Orengo, speaking during a press briefing in Kisumu, stated that no threats would deter the movement from proceeding. The rally, set for August 16, 2026, remains a focal point of political activity, with authorities balancing security concerns against the right to peaceful assembly.
