Nairobi is set to enhance its security framework with the phased introduction of the Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit (NMPU), according to Inspector General of Police Joseph Kanja. The initiative aims to modernize and streamline law enforcement operations in the capital and surrounding areas of Kajiado.

The NMPU will focus on improving response times and coordination between police forces in Nairobi and nearby sub-counties. This includes better resource allocation and training for officers. The rollout is expected to address rising concerns over crime and public safety in the region.

Officials have not yet provided a timeline for the full implementation of the unit. However, the plan signals a shift toward more localized and efficient policing strategies. The move comes amid growing demands for improved security in both urban and rural parts of the metropolitan area.

The new structure is anticipated to foster closer collaboration between different police units, ensuring a more unified approach to crime prevention and community engagement.
