A new undersea cable system, LuLu, has been launched along Kenya's coast, marking the country's first fully protected submarine cable system. The project links Mombasa to Lamu via Vipingo Special Economic Zone, enhancing digital infrastructure and connectivity in the region. Backed by INDOI, ARISE IIP, and Kingdom Bank, the system is designed to provide reliable and secure internet services to coastal communities.
The LuLu cable system is part of Kenya's broader efforts to improve digital infrastructure and support economic growth. By securing the cable with protective measures, the project aims to reduce the risk of disruptions and ensure stable data transmission. This initiative is expected to benefit local businesses, educational institutions, and government services in the coastal areas.
The collaboration between private sector partners and financial institutions highlights Kenya's growing focus on technological advancement and infrastructure development. The project also aligns with national goals to increase internet penetration and support the digital economy. As the system becomes operational, it could serve as a model for similar projects in other regions.
