President William Ruto has given foreign traders in Kenya 90 days to regularize their business operations, as part of efforts to protect local interests. The directive comes amid growing concerns over foreign participation in small-scale enterprises, with the government aiming to ensure that Kenyan businesses are not disadvantaged.

The move is part of a broader strategy to revise the Local Content Bill, which seeks to increase the involvement of Kenyans in key sectors. Fred Matiang’i, the Jubilee Party’s presidential flag bearer, has warned that Kenya risks harming its trade interests and the welfare of its citizens if foreign influence is not properly managed.

The deadline is expected to create a period of adjustment for foreign traders, allowing them to align with local regulations. Officials have emphasized the importance of balancing economic growth with national interests, ensuring that Kenyan businesses remain competitive and protected. The policy reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen domestic economic control.
