The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria has announced significant progress in its fight against financial crimes, recovering over ₦1.23 trillion and securing 10,872 convictions in 34 months. The latest milestone came as the Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld the conviction of Robert Orya, a former Managing Director, who was sentenced to 490 years in prison.

Orya was found guilty of embezzlement and fraud, marking another high-profile case in the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to hold corrupt officials accountable. The conviction underscores the commission’s commitment to enforcing legal action against financial misconduct.

The financial recovery includes assets seized from various cases, with a focus on high-value transactions linked to public officials. The EFCC has also emphasized its collaboration with international agencies to track and recover illicit funds.

The results reflect a sustained effort over three years, with the commission reporting a steady increase in both convictions and asset recovery. The Abuja-based court’s decision reinforces the legal framework supporting the EFCC’s operations.
