Nigeria’s economy continued its recovery trajectory in August, with business activity expanding for a third consecutive month. The latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics indicates a broadening of growth across key sectors, signaling a more resilient economic performance. This follows a series of policy reforms aimed at stabilizing the financial system and boosting investor confidence.
The Central Bank of Nigeria reported a modest increase in credit expansion, with private sector lending rising by 4.2% compared to the previous month. This growth was driven by improved liquidity in the banking sector and increased foreign exchange inflows. Analysts noted that the government’s fiscal discipline and efforts to curb inflation have contributed to the positive momentum.
Despite the encouraging trends, challenges remain, including high unemployment and persistent inflation. However, the sustained expansion suggests that the economy is on a more stable path. The government has expressed optimism about the outlook, emphasizing the need for continued reforms to sustain the recovery.
The data comes amid ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment and diversify the economy away from oil dependency. With the recovery showing signs of durability, Nigeria’s economic prospects remain cautiously optimistic.
