The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) conducted a raid in Central Visayas, destroying locally made illegal cigarettes and production equipment. The operation targeted unlicensed manufacturers operating without proper permits. Authorities seized a significant amount of illicit goods during the enforcement action.
The BIR also reported a strong revenue collection for the first seven months of 2026. It collected P2.003 trillion, exceeding its target of P1.990 trillion by P13.53 billion. This marks a 0.68 percent increase over the goal. The revenue growth also reflects a P102.60 billion rise compared to the same period in the previous year.
The crackdown on illegal cigarette production aims to reduce tax evasion and ensure fair competition. The BIR continues to enforce tax laws and improve revenue collection. These efforts highlight the agency’s commitment to maintaining financial integrity and supporting economic stability.
