Floods in India’s northeastern state of Assam have killed at least 100 people, according to local officials. The disaster, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, has submerged entire villages and left thousands displaced. Rescue teams are working through flooded streets and mudslides to reach those stranded.
Many families have lost multiple members. One father was found searching for his daughter’s body in the debris. Another man drowned while attempting to save a friend. The floods have also damaged infrastructure, cutting off roads and disrupting communication.
Local authorities have set up temporary shelters and distributed food and clean water. Emergency services are prioritizing the most affected areas. The Indian government has pledged aid, but access remains difficult due to the scale of the destruction.
The situation is expected to worsen as the monsoon season continues. Officials warn of further risks from landslides and rising water levels.
