US President Donald Trump has threatened economic sanctions against Iran’s trading partners, escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. The move comes as Iran’s leadership prepares for potential financial pressure, with officials warning of a “devastating” response. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for an end to the conflict with the US from a “position of strength,” following a phone call with Oman’s foreign minister.
The sanctions threat has already triggered a rise in global oil prices, with Brent crude climbing over 6% and US West Texas Intermediate crude up nearly 0.2%. Analysts suggest the move could lead to tighter supply in the coming weeks. Iran has previously warned that any new US threats would result in severe consequences, highlighting the growing risk of military escalation.
Washington’s economic pressure aims to weaken Iran’s leadership, but Tehran has shown no signs of backing down. The situation remains volatile, with both sides preparing for potential confrontation. As sanctions loom, the international energy market continues to react, signaling heightened uncertainty in global trade.
