Pakistan raised petrol prices to Rs367.75 and high-speed diesel (HSD) to Rs392.67 per litre from September 10, under a revised petroleum pricing mechanism. The government announced the increase as part of ongoing efforts to adjust fuel costs based on international market trends. The decision comes amid rising inflation and pressure on household budgets.
The price hike follows previous adjustments, with petrol and diesel prices continuing to climb over the past months. Officials cited the need to align domestic prices with global rates, though critics argue the move adds to economic strain. The increase is expected to impact transportation costs and consumer spending, particularly in urban areas where fuel is a major expense.
The government has not provided immediate relief measures, leaving many households and businesses to absorb the additional costs. Analysts warn that sustained price increases could further slow economic growth and affect public morale. The situation remains under close watch as the government balances fiscal policy with inflation control.
