BMW has launched its new iX3 electric Sports Activity Vehicle in South Africa, marking the local debut of the first production model under its Neue Klasse programme. The vehicle features a new platform, design language, and sixth-generation eDrive technology. It will initially be available as the iX3 50 xDrive, priced from R1,690,000.
The launch comes as part of BMW’s broader strategy to expand its electric vehicle offerings in the African market. The iX3 is designed to offer a claimed range of 820km on a single charge, making it a competitive option in the growing electric vehicle sector. The new model is expected to appeal to environmentally conscious consumers and those seeking advanced technology in their vehicles.
The introduction of the iX3 follows increasing demand for sustainable transportation solutions in South Africa. While the focus remains on the new vehicle, the broader context of the automotive industry’s shift toward electrification continues to shape the market. BMW’s entry into the South African market underscores the country’s growing importance in the global push for greener mobility.
