Confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have surpassed 5,000, according to government data. The outbreak, now the largest in the country's history, has caused over 2,378 deaths. Health officials warn that containment efforts are struggling to keep up with the rapid spread of the virus.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern over the situation, stating that the outbreak remains a global health emergency. WHO officials, including Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, have emphasized the need for increased support and resources to control the epidemic. Despite the challenges, the WHO also noted that the outbreak could still be brought under control within three months if current efforts are maintained.
The death rate in the DRC has reached nearly 50 percent, with over 2,300 fatalities recorded since May. The outbreak, which began in late July, has overwhelmed local health systems and highlighted the ongoing difficulties in managing the disease.
International aid organizations and local health workers continue to work under difficult conditions to provide care and prevent further spread. The situation underscores the urgent need for coordinated global action to address the crisis.
