A convoy carrying Nigeria's presidential candidate Peter Obi was blocked by armed individuals on Tuesday in Benue State, prompting swift condemnation from national leaders. The incident occurred along the Gboko–Makurdi road as Obi traveled to Yelwata to visit victims of recent killings. The National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, called the obstruction unacceptable in a democratic society.
The Nigerian Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister, Festus Keyamo, also expressed strong disapproval, describing the act as a violation of democratic principles. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) condemned the blockage, emphasizing its impact on efforts to support affected communities. Over 46 individuals were arrested in connection with the attack, according to local authorities.
