Baguio City officials confirmed Monday that the death toll from a landslide in Barangay Guisan Surong has risen to eight, with two people still missing. The incident occurred on the evening of August 9, and the latest fatality was reported at 8 p.m. on August 10, according to the Baguio City Public Information Office (PIO). The PIO also described a recent rescue operation as “miraculous,” following the recovery of a dog that had been trapped in the debris for nearly 24 hours. The animal, reportedly owned by one of the landslide victims, was found and saved by rescuers on the same day. The landslide, which struck a residential area, has raised concerns about safety in the region. Authorities continue to search for the two missing individuals while assessing the full impact of the disaster.
