Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Araqchi, has reiterated that the Yemen crisis cannot be resolved through military means, emphasizing the need for political negotiations. Speaking to an Arab newspaper, Araqchi stressed that a comprehensive political process is essential to end the conflict, which has already caused widespread suffering and displacement.
Meanwhile, reports from the ground indicate that Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, are advancing rapidly in southern Yemen, forcing thousands to flee their homes. In one instance, over 1,400 people escaped across the Gulf of Aden to Djibouti, highlighting the growing humanitarian crisis. The offensive has intensified fighting near key strategic locations, with both sides reporting heavy casualties.
Regional tensions are escalating as Egypt’s president has called on Iran to de-escalate the situation and halt attacks on Arab states. The conflict, now involving multiple regional powers, has raised concerns about further instability in the Arabian Peninsula. Diplomatic efforts, including planned meetings between Iran and Gulf Arab states, are seen as a potential step toward de-escalation.
