South Africa's new-vehicle market recorded a 11.4% increase in sales during August, according to the National Association of Motor Industry Wholesalers (Naamsa). A total of 57,898 vehicles were sold, marking a steady rise compared to the same month in the previous year. The growth was primarily driven by dealership sales, which accounted for 81.8% of the total. The rental sector also contributed significantly, representing 13.4% of sales.

The automotive industry continues to face challenges, particularly with vehicle exports, which have seen a decline. Despite this, the domestic market remains resilient, supported by strong demand from private buyers and commercial fleets. Industry analysts suggest that the continued growth reflects confidence in the local market, even as global trade conditions remain uncertain.

The government and corporate fleets also played a role in the sales figures, though their contribution was lower than that of dealerships and rental companies. With the market showing signs of stability, industry leaders are optimistic about the sector's performance in the coming months.

The rise in sales highlights the adaptability of South Africa's automotive industry, even in the face of external pressures. As the sector continues to evolve, the balance between domestic demand and export challenges will remain a key focus for stakeholders.
