The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free and fair elections in Nigeria. The announcement was made by Adedayo Akinwale and Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja, as part of a broader effort to reassure the international community of Nigeria’s neutrality and dedication to democratic integrity.
INEC emphasized its unyielding stance on ensuring transparency and credibility in the 2027 general election. The commission also welcomed the advisory issued by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), which outlined guidelines for the conduct of the election.
The statement comes amid heightened anticipation for the upcoming polls, with various stakeholders calling for robust electoral reforms. Akinwale and Ezigbo assured that INEC would uphold its constitutional mandate and work closely with international observers to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
The commission reiterated its readiness to engage with all political parties and civil society organizations to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition of power.
