Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has filed legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging the nomination of Governor Hope Uzodimma as the APC candidate for the Imo West senatorial district election in 2027. The lawsuit seeks to invalidate the nomination, which Okorocha claims was improperly processed.
Okorocha, who previously served as Imo’s governor and later became a senator representing the same district, alleges that the APC failed to follow proper procedures in selecting Uzodimma. The case was filed in the Federal High Court, with Okorocha requesting a court order directing INEC to recognize and publish his name as the duly nominated APC candidate.
The dispute highlights tensions within the APC over internal candidate selection processes. Okorocha’s legal team argues that the nomination of Uzodimma violates party rules and undermines the integrity of the electoral process. The case is expected to draw attention to the challenges of political party governance in Nigeria.
The court has yet to schedule a hearing, but the legal battle underscores the complexities of political nominations and the role of judicial oversight in electoral matters.
