Over 700 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto state have reportedly switched their political allegiance to the All Progressive Congress's rival, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in the Goronyo Local Government Area. The shift, which has sparked local political debate, comes amid heightened competition ahead of upcoming elections.
The defection, confirmed by local observers, marks a significant realignment in the region’s political landscape. Many of the members reportedly left the APC due to dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership and policy direction. Some sources suggest that the ADC has offered more attractive incentives to attract the defectors.
The move has raised concerns among APC officials, who have called for an internal review of their strategies. Meanwhile, the ADC has welcomed the new members, emphasizing their commitment to grassroots engagement and community development.
Political analysts note that such shifts are not uncommon in Nigerian politics, but the scale of this defection underscores growing tensions within the ruling party. The situation remains under close watch as both parties prepare for the next electoral cycle.
